The Hawaii Parkinson Association

This month, the Movement Disorders Policy Coalition is pleased to highlight the Hawaii Parkinson Association. HPA uplifts and supports people living with Parkinson’s disease and strives to further research to find the cause and the cure for Parkinson’s disease.

“Providing emotional and physical support is our main goal at the Hawaii Parkinson Association,” said volunteer and recently diagnosed Patrick Downer. “We are proud to join forces with the Movement Disorders Policy Coalition to empower patients and caregivers within the Parkinson’s community.”

The all-volunteer Hawaii Parkinson Association consists of patients, caregivers, family members, health care professionals, educators and business leaders in the community. Their mission is to support research and provide resources on how to live well with Parkinson’s disease.

The Hawaii Parkinson Association currently manages eleven ‘talk story’ support groups for patients and caregivers, eight exercise groups and a choir. They also host educational seminars and workshops throughout the year on topics such as Parkinson’s basics, caregiver training, medication management, deep brain stimulation therapy and gaining access to local clinical trials.
